SGPro tutorial

Each autofocuser unit is thoroughly tested in SGPro before shipped out to our customers. We highly recommend it for automation of astrophotography. You can control every ASCOM supported piece of gear, just like our budget ASCOM autofocuser. This tutorial is a short intro just to demonstrate how simple it is to control our autofocuser unit. Scroll to the bottom for sample images, done just in one session and autofocused by our budget autofocuser unit.

Sequence Generator Pro is one of the most popular automation programs for astrophotography. It is not free but for good reason - it just works. I am using my autofocuser exclusively with it and it passed the tests with flying colors. Below is a basic procedure of connecting the focuser and testing its features.

Step 1

Start up SGPro and create new sequence (or open existing). In focuser dropdown (1) at upper right, there should be an option "ASCOM Focuser Driver for DeepSkyDad AF". Choose it, click settings (2) and configure it to your needs (check FAQ for more). Confirm settings and click "Connect" (3).

Step 2

Start up SGPro and create new sequence (or open existing). In focuser dropdown (1) at upper right, there should be an option "ASCOM Focuser Driver for DeepSkyDad AF". Choose it, click settings (2) and configure it to your needs (check FAQ for more). Confirm settings and click "Connect" (3).

Step 3

Click on focuser control window (1). Here you can manually control the focuser (2). The fun part starts with "Auto Focus Settings" at the bottom (3), for which you will need to connect your camera in SGPro. For purpose of this tutorial, we will use "Simulator". In previously open sequence select "Simulator" (4) for Camera and click "Connect" (5).

Step 4

Once you have your camera and autofocuser connected, you can configure the autofocuser settings. Following settings worked best for me with 1/4 step on WO 71 Star F/4.9:

Step 5

With settings stated above, I did a few test sessions, here are 2 sample images:
